Includes: Lynn Next MeetingWill be disclosed at a later date. Updates The South Shore region is a great example of a community that genuinely wants to be a part of civic and political processes. We are particularly proud of this community's progress; since we first started working in Lynn, the interest in learning about leadership and community issues has boomed. The community has risen together to speak-out about dropout rates and public safety issues. Their activism has been evident through our Advocacy Day when the Latino residents spoke with their representatives and senators about dropout prevention and their Crime-Watch efforts in their neighborhoods. We would like to recognize the leadership and enthusiasm of Vilma Reyna and Carmen Lopez. At our Latino Convention 2008, they were presented with ¿Oíste? AMIGO Awards for their continued interest and activism to improve their community and to make a difference. Once again: Congratulations!! We would also like to recognize the support and leadership of Maroli, the Executive Director of Family and Children Services. His collaboration with ¿Oíste? has vastly increased the amount of civic participation within the Latino community of Lynn. Thank you Lynn for all of your hard work!!! |

Updates The Latino communities of Western Massachusetts are full of enthusiasm for improving political, economic and social sectors of the community. They have met every month this year to strategize ways of improving local education and public safety. They also have been working on trying to increase not only the Latino vote but also the number of locally elected officials that care about the interests of the Latino community. We would like to recognize the efforts of Zaida Luna who has proven to be an excellent leader in the community. Also, Carlos Gonzalez, for providing space in the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Springfield to hold the community meetings.
